Moringa Updates

Benedicto Hosea on research about moringa

INTRODUCTION
This page aims at giving news and findings about Moringa oleifera. Since the commencement of the project aiming at producing Moringa Oleifera at Zeze village, procedures and experiences are to be presented on this page so that every person interested in Moringa Oleifera can find from this valuable information concerning the process of Moringa Cultivation.

DESCRIPTION
Moringa Oleifera has described by various scholars and scientists basing on its values to ecological system mostly eying human health and the plant nature. Beyond these, Moringa is significantly on the right way to sustainability of the world as researches portray day to day. Moringa Oleifera Project established at Zeze Village in Kasulu-Tanzania, is an intensive M.O cropping field that is or will be providing useful data for the facts the plant has. In advance, scientific and systematic procedures of research have been and will be conducted to get the final results that will enable us come up with a conclusion and recomendations about the plant called Moringa Oleifera.

PROJECT COMMENCEMENT OVERVIEWS
First step
Pre-project start I first investigated the facts about Moringa Oleifera from various sources including books, internet links and personal communication. Swedish man (Johan Lofstrom) played decisive role in making me get sufficient information about Moringa tree. Not only that I found Ukrainian lady living in United Kingdom who sufficiently motivated me to go establishment of the project at my home (Zeze). Zija the American Moringa Company, Trees For Life Organization, and other organizations whose publications are on Internet, was passed to identify the key toward the new project commencement.Soptic in Kenya and Moringa Makai and Moringa Consultancy Company in Tanzania fostered the venture to the birth of unprivileged plant to the area.

Second step
Sample selected for study
Community assessment was done to identify how people are aware of the plant, while investigate the acceptability of it. The process went hand to hand with knowledge transfer through classes and discussion regardless to whom it target to be imparted to. The findings shown that that number of people were not aware of Moringa plant. This factor made difficult people to accept the idea of Moringa and the number of attendants declined. Then sample to be studied and educated were selected. 11 men were selected with the intention those will treat their wives to the same school. Then I remembered my Colleague Johan L, "start from the small to large scale would sound more than to start at large" which then encouraged me to start even with little aware to the target population.

Third step
Writing a project plan was done so as to influence investors and donors for effectiveness project implementation. The plan is to start with 10Ha with the goal to be the area of reference for future development. The proposal written were sent to various stakeholders for corrections and advice seeking together with assistance requesting. Under this step is where I appreciated myself that I can go beyond 10Ha.

Fourth step
Onsite activities was then commenced with the involvement of various inputs. In October 2012, we carried out onfield works as follows
  • Farm inspection to verify readiness and suitability of the farm for moringa cropping
  • Clearing of the farms together with training implementers to the best production procedures and
  • Hole boring.
Under this step various inputs were used which are both tangible and intangible input.

Moringa Olefera Project Plan

An Abstract

Moringa Oleifera project plan is the newly proposed project to be established at Zeze village in Kasulu District, Kigoma, Tanzania after long and intensive search of the facts the plant has. The project aim at promoting rural development through enhancing the use of moringa products as source of nutrition food, cooking oil, water purifying methodology, source of income and for both farming advantages. Moringa  Oleifera through research that have been made in various countries like India, Nicaragua, Philippines, Thailand and other countries by various organizations and institutions such as FAO, Church organizations, universities and individuals, have proved the potentialities the plant is and recommended the use of its products. Although those findings have recommended, the plant still lack international approval to be used in various fields in which it has shown ability to serve people like medical services.

In response to recent world situation in right of food scarcity, environmental destruction, income crises, climatic change, diseases explosion, and the other factors as linkage to Moringa Oleifera’s benefits, it has resolved to establish the plantation at the area mentioned above that as to tracking the current and forthcoming world challenges.

As it is valid that all over the world there is no free lunch, the project introduced here is in need to seek for national and international support/donors either individuals or groups, governmental or non governmental organization(NGOs) and religions in terms of advice(moral), materials, funds and technical through either direct involvement or other means.

Under this project, the scope and vision toward sustainability families is the priority which state that “making world the better place to live and heritage of the Community”. This is possible through the best planning of valuable projects that will minimize adverse impacts on the communities of the world and encouraging all people of the earth to resemble the same everywhere and in every aspects of life. Moringa Oleifera, through its potentials values, would be the best for the “Heritage of the Community” to our world.

1.0.INTRODUCTION

Moringa Oleifera project plan is an idea developed by Benedicto Hosea Ntibikema in cooperation with various scholars and friend after two years (2011-2012) duration of research finding the truth of the plant. After the findings have gathered accordingly, theories developed are to be put into practice as to cause effective and efficiently utilization of improper use of scarce resource land available for sustainable development. With hopeful zeal to meet the major goals, the born of MO project commenced and documented in the mid June 2012

1.1.Moringa Oleifera background
This amazing plant is a native in India spread around the world but not well known everywhere like other crops such as sisal, maize, beans and more. It is of several species that have been used in Tamil Nadu, Thailand, Philippines and Africa over decades as the traditional food and medicine. The twelve (12) varieties of Moringa species include Moringa Arborea, Moringa Borziana, Moringa Consonances, Moringa Drouhardii, Moringa Hildebrandtii, Moringa Longituba, Moringa Ovalifolia, Moringa Peregrina Moringa Pygmaea, Moringa Rivae, Moringa Ruspoliana, Moringa, and Stenopetala. (B. Dolcas 2008)

1.2.Necessary condition for Moringa growing
Mnagakay is the name used in Philippines meaning that it is the sun loving plant which this signify that the plant is well growing on region with sufficient sun light and heat and does not well grow in areas with cold of less than 15’C of temperature and also grows well on well drained soil (sand and loamy) with minimum need of much water. These factors favour the tropical region to be the areas of suit for moringa production due to sufficient solar radiation.

1.3.Project area information
Zeze village is located South-west from Kasulu district about 43km from Kasulu town in West Tanzania. It is about 16km to Kazuramimba railway station in the South-west. Main transport from and to the area are commuters and motor cycles for passengers and Lorries and bicycles for both luggage and passenger via weather roads.
The area receives sufficient rainfall ranging between 800-1500mm per annum with temperature ranging between 16 and 32 centigrade. Soil is of all types meaning sandy, loamy, and clay soil but larger part is of loam and sandy soil with potential fertility. There is variability in soil colours that are reddish-brown, darkish and somehow greyish in colour. Sun shines at the area is about twelve (12) hours a day. It is a real tropical near equatorial climate.

1.4.Values moringa has
To date moringa is a promising plant to alleviate poverty in developing countries especially in Africa, South America and Asia. It influences individuals and organizations involvement in research and implementing the plant due to its potentials and ability in copying the real world situation.
Currently, Moringa is in development in terms of research, implementation and marketing. Not only used for food but also for Bio-diesel production. Bio-fuel research which have done in south Africa, Australia, Rwanda, Japan, Pakistan, Brazil and the rest, are providing highly success of moringa than Jatropha plant in bio-fuel production.
From nutritional values moringa contains, trigger and encourage the groups, organizations,  institutions and individuals to join in production of moringa plants so as to improve communities living standards through either use leafs (green) or leaf powder, pods(Green), oil seeds(Ben Oil) and traditional medicines from every part of the plant
Chapter Two
2.0. MISSION AND VISION
2.1. Mission
To produce moringa at recommended quality and quantity of the international agencies
To deliver knowledge about what moringa has and does for rural communities.
To develop plantations at every where the communities will accept the project
To promote sustainable development though moringa plant production
To receive and deliver information from and to different communities about the plant
To maintain the global variability leading to un-health communities.
These mean that I have to expand project activities to reach every needy community and bind those communities together as to create a large big community which resemble the same in all aspects/spheres of life regardless to which gender and sex, culture, nationality or by any means.

2.2. Vision
To have more than 50ha of reference, research, study and seed production for other plantations with aggressive quantity and quality.
To have trained at least 100 personnel form other parts of my origin project
To make sure people are lessen in term of employment lacking through this project
To reduce rural poverty especially mothers from family humiliation and income poverty

To change the project from individual ownership to organization that will go every where to cooperate with other international development agencies in order to share, plan, implementing, monitoring and evaluating and financing groups and individuals projects as the means of poverty alleviation especially in rural developing countries.

Chapter Three
3.0. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
3.1. General objective
This project objects to maintain social, economical and environmental status as Moringa plant has proved sustainability. It is the right time to use my knowledge to implement the project that the people should learn and expand their production and use of the products that will encourage social health improvement and increase families cherish, economic growth through individual income either through employment (both self and private) or through selling products to others (market) and environmental conservation through plantings and reduction of clearfalling of trees in search of fire wood and reduce the use of organic fuels which are the giant into environmental pollution.
3.2. Specific objectives
To effective and sustainable utilization of land resource that have proved failure in supporting other crops such as maize, cassava, beans, millet, sorghum and other crops.
To over vegetation the land that have over cleared beneficially through the use of the plantation of moringa.
To encourages rural development especially through the use of Moringa products to add into local foods and water clarifying/purifying as many people in rural areas are not access to clean and pure water.
To influences external and internal research on the suitability of the plant in promoting sustainable development all over the world.
To create individuals capabilities in handling health, income, environment and families safely without much dependant on the advanced technological facilities meanwhile Moringa should be manually and traditionally processed and consumed.
Moreover, I focus on creating and developing conducive climate for social interaction, through marketing, sports and games, research and learning and other more spheres that will enable the communities to resemble the same everywhere and in all aspects of life.
